On the back of both machines there is a ethernet port. My 360 came with an ethernet cable. You have to have a broadband internet connection (DSL or cable). Plug the ethernet cable into the modem, or a router, and the other end into the xbox. On the 360, you have a silver membership for free. Just connect to live and sign up, you can upgrade to gold (which is what you need to play games online) through your dashboard or going to walmart and buying a starter kit
