I have noticed for the past two weeks I have been having headaches about every other day. I have noticed that it is only when I am at work. The headache goes away after I take an advil, but I am wondering if it is something serious or if it is because I use the computer all day. Serious answers only please.

Omg!! I hate headaches!! It could be from the stress you haveat work or from looking at the computer screen and hurting your eyes!! You may need glasses!! you should probably get your eyes checked!! And if that doesnt help you probably need to see a doctor and maybe havea catscan!! Idont want to scare you buit you may also have a tumor. But it probably is something minor!!

If your headaches are something new, there has to be something there causing it. It could be the computer. That really does strain your eyes being on all day. Also the seasons, allergies, or new foods you are eating… Also changes in sleep, caffeine, nicotine, or other things you body is used to that has suddenly altered. All of those things can cause headaches to suddenly come on.

Be careful about taking Advil. I get headaches everyday and used to take Advil whenever one would come on. I found out that your body becomes dependant to it and you will get rebound headaches from being used to take of it. My neurologist has me off all over the counter pain meds (Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, Excedrin, etc.) for that reason and actually my daily headaches have gotten better. So just don’t take it all of the time.

I know there isn’t much you can do about the florescent lights in the office or having to work on a computer all day, but make yourself take breaks to give your eyes a rest. Make sure to keep yourself very hydrated all day. That is one thing my headache doctor pushes. Drink, drink, drink!!! You can never have enough fluids.

A quick doctor check would be a great idea as they would check a few things. They may be able to tell you what kind of headache you are having.. Like from tension, sinuses, etc… and they can help big-time to make you feel better. They would also check things like your balance, reflexes, coordination, sensation, and other things for a neurological check. That would pretty much rule out anything seriously wrong.

Good luck and stay healthy : )

there are a few things that might be happening. headaches from using computer too much are common. the forward head position which cranes your nneck forward often causes neck musculature to become over tight and cause a headache. Looking at the screen for long periods is also hard on the eyes. Massage therapy is very useful for people with recurring headaches. Headaches are also caused by poor adrenal function and talking with a chinese medicine specialist about herbs and acupuncture that stimulate adrenal function is wise as well. Watch your posture at work. keep your chin level, dont crane your neck. take regular breaks away from the screen and make sure you are getting 64 oz water daily. Warm microwaveable neck pads can be hung around shoulders and neck while at your desk, to reduce tension. Self massage posterior neck and jaw muscles when tight. Meds should be the last option as tylenol is toxic to the liver and ibuprophen is hard on the kidneys. meds are not a long term option to pain. get a massage!

Are you working in a building new to you?

Sometimes there are chemical pollutants in buildings that are subtle
and only effect certain people. If lots of people have the symptoms,
its usually pretty easy to get the company to track the problem down.
If not, you may end up just having to change jobs.

On the other hand, eye strain from computer use, or bad posture is
frequently a problem. Try spending a day at work *NOT* using the
computer. That should tell you if the problem is related to the building
or the job itself.

There are things you can do if it is related to using the computer - getting
a different monitor, placing it differently, getting a better chair, etc.

This can happen from staring a screen. Another cause can be dehydration. Try drinking more water and see if it still happens.
If it does than it could be from staring at screen so long. Take breaks every 10-15 min and stare outside, around the office, and then go back. Again, see if you have a problem. If you do, see a doctor.

Have you had your eyes checked? My son was having a lot of headaches and my doctor told us to have his eyes checked (that's tomorrow) Also, when I was working the florescent lights gave me headaches all the time. Staring at a computer screen all day long doesn't help either. Good luck!

There is a very large list, here are a few main ones: allergies, too much caffeine or too little caffeine after having too much caffeine, dehydration, stress, low blood sugar, eye straining, medication, lack of sleep, ect. So, I would start with easy things like water, allergies, and perhaps stretching every hour or so at the computer. If it continues, or gets worse, contact your doctor.

Is there something that you have been eating in the past two weeks that is different from normal? Also look around and see if anyone has an air freshener around. Things like that give my husand a headache.

Along with having your eyes checked make sure you are drinking plenty of water a day. DUring the summer when the air conditioners are at full blast it becomes very easy to lose water. De-hydration is one of the most common causes of "random" headaches.

Sounds like it might be eyestrain if you use a computer a lot. Alternatively, it could be stress headaches (I get that a lot). It's probably nothing serious, but if you're really worried, see your doctor.
