I have two small children and I started listening to country music because I found that other types of music had questionable lyrics that I didn't want my kids to listen to. But let me tell you, when the kids aren't in the truck with me my tastes change. It's back to Rock/alternative. ^.~

Of course your not a dork. I've been a country music fan since the late 80's and I love the music so much. I go to at least 1 concert a month. I live in Orange County and my 3 daughters all prefer country to any other music.

I don't think listening to country music makes you a dork. Especially since you're doing it to protect your kids from some of the crazy lyrics other types offer. I'd say that makes you a thoughtful parent!

No you're not a dork, you're a being who has choice and the freedom to listen to whatever music you wish. Man, if I met someone who ONLY listened to one or two genres, I'd question their open-mindedness, their limited perspective and their lack of interest... The world is full of amazing tunes, open your mind to the stories they all tell.. some rock/alternative/emo/ can be good for your kids though...it's up to you to teach them how to interpret the lyrics, and the message...

Rock 'n roll is my music of choice. Older rock like Zepplin, Deep Purple, Supertramp, CSN &Y are favs of mine. I have to admit that as I've aged I now also seem to find myself singing along with some of the new country today (which in fact is probably more middle of the road than country) and enjoying some of it. Music is music and should soothe the soul, not like today's music that gets people bad mouthing everything including cops, women, people of colour etc.

well...everyone has different music taste...personally i have a very wide variety of music i like to listen to, country being part of my selection...and i'm 15, but i also listen to rock, rap and emo...(just to name a few)....so i wouldn't say you're a dork....but if you start dissing on the other kinds of music then that will make your kids fascinated in them, and they'll probably start listening to it themselves, so do occasionally listen the the other kinds of music. (not all are bad, just some and you can find the nice kinds)

You think you're a dork!? I listen to Classical baby. How ya like them apples?

Of course I honestly like a lot of other stuff like rock, (none of the people now though...60, 70 and 80 stuff), jazz, and country from say 1930's to 50's.

No rap or hip hop though. That's just bad rhymes sung by talentless stooges whose only saving grace is getting into gunfights and rubbing one another out. There's hope yet.

I, personally, like all kinds of music except country and pop. I've been listening to metal lately and I like classic rock along with some rap. Not the rap with extremely explicit lyrics. When my son is in the car I listen to classic rock/oldies since he's only four. When I'm with my daughter, I listen to anything I'd normally listen to.

I perfer rock. When I'm in the car with my husband we listen to country (his favorite kind of music). There are some good country songs out there. You are not a dork.

I hate country with a passion. I wasn't raised country and the music is annoying to me. It's right along there with techno to me. Some country can be just as "questionable" as other genres of music. I don't think "Save A Horse, Ride a Cowboy" or "Honky Tonk, Badonkadonk" are approriate either (plus, they make me want to blow my f*cking brains out when I listen to them). Also to me, some country can be extremely depressing to listen to.

I like what I like. Simple as that. I don't listen to a group solely based on one aspect or another; if it's catchy or cute or romantic or good to dance to, I'll listen to it. But no country or techno... EVER.
