I personally think the reason was simple: to make a statement of intent. He's going out of his way to deliberately show he is different from Sven, but only time will tell if that is the right strategy.

Lets Face it here People
Beckham is NOT good enough for International football anymore,
OK he can cross a mean ball and take a good Free-Kick, But is that really good enough for the International team.
Beckham out on the right SHOULD be doing a whole LOT MORE for the team,

He was the only player at the recent World Cup who played out on the Right Wing, and NEVER once attacked a defender, beat him with a dribble or a bit of skill to get passed him and put in one of his trademark crosses from the MOST dangerous of positions, down on the oppositions goal-line.

Beckham in Germany was not the same player who ran after every lost cause and inspired the rest of the players around him to put in that little bit extra for the Team.

Sven stuck by Beckham too long, I personally would have had either AaronLennon (or for me Shaun Wright-Phillips) playing in Beckhams position, and I'd have had Beckham on the bench,
1) You would see how Wright-Philips / Lennon would have handled the situation and
2) It would also have bucked Beckhams ideas up, Knowing that the Manager WOULD drop him.

I think Beckham was in a comfort role in the England Team, Being the Captain I think he was under the impression that he would NOT be dropped from the team no matter HOW BAD he was playing, I think he saw himself as a CERTAIN starter in any England Team against any opposition.

I think that McLaren is perfectly within his rights to drop Beckham and for me he should have been dropped a LONG TIME AGO.
You never know it might make him try that bit more.

But the future has to be Wright-Phillips and Lennon for now and you'll be hoping that a few more young lads come through the ranks too.

For me David Becham SHOULD have played his LAST game for England, unless he learns how to take defenders on and beat them, Which I very much doubt.

The simple fact is that Beckham has simply not preformed on the pitch, and is now more interested in his pocket than his game. He admitted himself after the World Cup that he had not given it his all.
Quite simply the Beckham brand has become too powerful and too big for its own good. People are tiring of the big powerful goal-scorer image, but are also tiring of his off pitch antics such as the showy tattoos and also of the hanger on that Victoria Beckham has become. Instead people are turning to 'true' heroes such as Peter Crouch who live for their game and are not running around trying to please sponsors.
Also, Beckham resigned himself, without duress, as captain. The big danger with the England squad was that they were relying upon a couple of good players to score goals, and that the line up was becoming predictable and boring, leading to a lacklustre preformance by the team in general. Plus, why should Beckham be kept on the team simply because he's Beckham. If he does not preform then he si not good enough for the team. Simple as that. No privelige, no special favour. Just pure decisiveness.
In fact the shake up may prove to be useful- there may be a brilliant but unknown player just waiting to take their place.
Beckham is finished if I am honest.
Also, if you think I'm biased. then I must say that I actually hated the World Cup (too much hype and saturation on thr TV), and football in general. I prefer cycling, and am a fan of the Discovery Channel Cycling Team.

It's clearly McLaren stamping his authority on the job from an early stage, but I do question this decision. Beckham may not be able to go round players or have electric pace, but he can still do a job for his country.

If I was Beckham (and I'm not, I'm far better looking), I'd be angered to see someone like Shaun Wright-Phillips in the squad. He hardly played any first team football last season for Chelsea, so does he deserve his place? No denying he's a good player, but has he earned it?

I think Beckhams getting a bit past it now and some of the younger players like Lennon deserve to be given a chance,i still think Beckham could do a job as a sub.

Because he slows the play down.

Every time he gets the ball, he puts his foot on it and looks to pass it, allowing vital seconds for the opposoition to retreat.

Never once went past anyone! To slow for todays game. SWP, Lennon although not as good in terms of distribution are more effective from an attacking point of view, and quicker to be defensive.

Peronally if I was in his position I would have done the same thing. Not to be rid of Bekham but to try and make him hungry for the game again. He is definatley a star player, but as things were for him what did he want for? Playing for the best club in the world and being captain of your country, doesn't relly leave you with many ambitions left does it.

David .is only good for (no not shagging Vicky) corners & direct free kicks - apart from that he is missing in action - he is like a skinny Ronaldo (the real one) .. Maybe Rangers should sign him - after all Ibrox is the retirement home for aging soccer stars.
