11 + 7 + x/3 = x, where x is the total number of students on the team

multiply both sides by 3:

33 + 21 + x = 3x

54 = 2x

x = 27 (and there are 9 students from the 4th grade on the team)

easy. you add up the numbers from the 6th and 5th grade. that is 18. if the 4th graders make up (1/3) then the other grades make up (2/3) so divide 18 by (2/3) and you get 27. 27 - 18 = 9, the number of 4th graders. to check, 27 * (1/3) = 9

27. If 11 + 7 = (1 - 1/3) of the team, then the other third must equal (11 + 7) / (2/3 / 1/3), or 9. Therefore, the anwer you're looking for is 11 + 7 + 9 = 27.

let the team = x

4th = 1/3 x
5th = 7
6th = 11

x = 4th + 5th + 6th
x = 1/3x + 7 + 11
x - 1/3x = 7 + 11

(x is actually 1x)

(1- 1/3 = 2/3)

2/3x = 18

( divide each side by 2/3)

x = 27

There are 27 students on the team.

11 + 7 + 1/3x = 3/3x
18 = 2/3 x
18 * 3/2 = x
27 = x

27 total

6th: 11
5th: 7
4th: (27 - 18) = 9

You've chosen an INCORRECT Answer to the question

11 + 7 = 18 = 2/3rds
therefore 1/3rd = 9

so there are 27 students

Well as it is right now there are 18 students from 6th and 5th grade. So 1/3 of that is 18/3 which is 6. There has to be more than 6 fourth grade students.

4th = 9
5th = 7
6th = 11

Which means there are 27 team members.

And since 27/3 is 9 then it is true that one third of the team is from 4th grade.

Answer is 27

let the team be x
so 4th grade is 1/3x
1/3x+7+11=x
18=x-1/3x
18=3*x-1/3*3
18=3x-1x
18=2x/3
3*18=2x/3*3
54=2x
54/2=x
27=x so x=27 students in the team.........

6th grade = 11
5th grade = 7
4th grade = 1/3 of the entire team
x = number of students on the entire team.....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The equation :
11 + 7 + 1/3x = x
1/3x - x = -11 -7
-2/3x = -18
x = (-18) / (-2/3)
x =27
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Result :
6th grade = 11
5th grade = 7
4th grade = (1/3) (27) = 9
The total of students who are on the team is 27
