drain it, remove the petcock, clean it out, then remove the carburator, clean it, replace all the fuel lines, add fresh gas and pray. if the gas tank is real rusty inside then you should take it to a radiator shop as they can clean it for you, i would also have them line it as well. oh a trick you can try if your poor is to put several rocks or marbels in it and shake the tank around until your arms fall off lol

The petcock is the little valve thingee where the gas comes out of the tank. Generally a tank has one or two, and they can be turned to on, off, or reserve position. To completely drain it, put in the reserve position before unscrewing the petcock.

As to what to do with the fuel - I answered this in another question. Just take it to any auto parts store. Absolutely do not just dump it on the ground or in a drain or something.

if the gas is old enough, it will turn into a tar looking crap.. if that has happened take the tank... and trash it.. its not worth the time it will take to clear it... remove and trash the fuel lines... remove the carb and for gods sake if you dont know what you doing take it to a professional for cleaning and rebuilding... pending the gas isnt in another part of the motor and tared up you should be fine after the replacement... i learned the hard way with an old bike i got... did the same thing to me.. have fun and good luck!

you pull the fule line off and turn the gas on and let it dump into a bottle or a bucket .. and while your at it you might as well clean the carburator too because it has the same thing in it that the gas tank does
