The best way to get the stain off the wall is to repaint the wall. The best paint for covering stains, and dark colours is a product called "KILLZ" You can find it at wal-mart, and other home improvement stores. I know that wal-mart will even add colour to the paint so you can use straight colour instead of using it as a primer.

Good luck with the painting.

use KILZ primer to seal over the residue then you can paint, this will stop the residue from burning through your paint job. Any paint store should carry this product.

The stain has soaked into the drywall paper, and it will not come off- Use a alky flat paint to prime, and repaint.
