Twilight by Stephenie Meyer would be my first book to recommend. It is a GREAT book. And its sequel is coming out in a few weeks.
Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld is also good. They are Uglies; Pretties; and Specials. For another book dealing with teens of the future read Rash by Pete Hautman.
Sarah Dessen writes great books. Her latest book is Just Listen. But my personal favorite is The Truth About Forever.
If you're looking for a light read try What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones.
If you want a book that has it all--humor, pranks, unrequited love, heartache, etc. try reading Looking For Alaska by John Green.

Some of my favorites:
Speak, by Lauren Halse Anderson. One of the most cynical, honest, and compelling teenaged narrators of all time.
Make Lemonade, by Virginia Euwer Wolff. Determined, successful LaVaughn babysits for the children of an older girl -- and has to reconsider her own ideas about being good.
How I Live Now, by Meg Rosoff. What do you do when all the normal things in the world -- school, family, safety -- fall apart?
Dicey's Song, by Cynthia Voigt. Dicey has had to be the grownup for her younger siblings for a while; it's hard for her to return to school and find her own identity again.
Saffy's Angel, by Hilary McKay. Saffy's family is hilariously weird, but there's also a lot of real emotional satisfaction in this story; I always cry at the end.

If you want to give fantasy a try - read King Fortis the Brave. It's about a pair of twins that are pulled into a magical world and get caught up in a battle for control of the land. It's full of humor and adventure and one of my favorite books.

when i was a teenager i enjoyed (these are authors only) Ann Rice, Stephen King, V.C. Andrews, Danielle Steele, John Grisham
don't sell yourself short, don't read 'teen books' just because they are for teens....read some stuff on the best seller's list, they are best sellers for a reason!
