Marijuana? Why do you hate it?

Why do people hate marijuana so much? It's one of the healthiest things on the planet. And to say that it is a gateway drug is completely unfair, nicotine is a MUCH bigger gateway drug because it IS addictive making people acclimate to a truly addictive substance (marijuana is not [I know this from expirience]). It doesn't cause lung cancer (a study shows that people in india who smoke [other things and marijuana] EVERYDAY have some of the healthiest lungs in the world). It is a drug that makes you smarter over time because it stimulates brain cell growth and my theory is that this is a result of working completely different parts of your brain when you're high. And people who are spreading around this rumor (and that's all it is) that drug dealers are putting harmful drugs into people's pot is pretty damn stupid, if someone were to put cocaine in my pot I would smell/taste/feel it. I would appreciate it if people who don't know what they are talking about to kindly shut the **** up.

Actually the new studies I've seen show the exact opposite, it isn't addictive and actually is something like the addictive potential of shrooms which is similar to not wanting it too often. In the smallest words. And as for your supposed friend that smoked "wet" I seriously would consider that fact that substances are EXTREMELY varied in strength and effect. And it is indeed one of the healthiest things on the planet (not an exaggeration) the most healthy being blue-green algae. The seeds themselves have close to perfect nutrition, and as for the rest of the plant it is completely natural (of course) and contains ingredients that are useful in almost EVERY consumable retail opportunity.

I nkow in denver,co it's legal to have 2 o's on you and i hear a town on ohio is doing it too, slowly but surely it will be legal again. also look at meth its the most dangerous drug at the moment. the jails are flooded with people who have been busted with pot. mean while you can kill someone and be up for parole in 7 years.and rot in jail for selling pot.take a look at amsterdam everything's legal and the only thing they frown on is guns. and they have no problems at all. it's all crap dude, just keep ono puffin' till we get our turn peace STONER

Ok...I have to say a few things.

First and foremost, I support the legalization of marijuana; I don't smoke it, but the fact is that there would be two things to benefit from.

Taxation of the product and government regulation could lead to increased revenue and new jobs. And the prison population would probably decline dramatically.

However, I do believe - from watching my pothead sisters, brother and their ignorant friends - that it is a gateway drug. Gateway meaning; it opens the door for experimentation with other substances.

Alcohol has been viewed as having the same effect with regards to being a gateway, but it is legal. Hell, it is far more destructive to the human body than Marijuana.

I really don't believe marijuana makes you smarter, because every "pothead" I know seems to forget huge portions of their past, and tend to not really care about certain important things.

Then again, Alcoholics and People that depend on Nicotine and/or Caffeine have similar if not more vicious side effects, but these things are all legal.

It should be legal but regulated. No one below 18 should ever be targeted by or exposed to it. I just believe that there are far more important issues to bicker over than marijuana. So many tax dollars are wasted on the pursuit, arrests, prosecutions, and imprisonment of potheads. It is a great disservice to our society to allow this to be an issue in a ciilized society.

Now Crack, Cocaine, Meth, etc. should all remain illegal. These things are very destructive and would be no benefit to society.

Why do many Conservatives hate it? Probably because Marijuana has always been more about "rebellion" against the establishment than anything else. If it weren't for the rebellion theme, they would probably stand up for the "right" to smoke this freely as they do with cigarettes.

I've never heard that it stimulates brain cell growth.. Just look at a stoner and see for yourself. I dont hate it at all, but I wouldnt do it because I wouldnt want to jeopardize going to jail or losing work over it.. And saying that its one of the healthiest things on the planet is a bit of a stretch. Its something people try as teens and should move on from when the real world comes calling.

so my friend but all new studies are showing that marijauna is addictive physically. We have known for generations it is addictive psychologically. You are mistaken that it stimulates brain cell growth, it actually leaves brains cells coated with thc which makes it difficult for them to act as neurotransmittors and slows down the thought process. And I am afraid you are also mistaken about what may be being mixed with your pot. Dealers are not in it to be kind and sweet. They are looking to make money and the surest way to do so is make you an addict so you keep coming back for more. I feel for you. Maybe it is time to take your own advice and be quiet til you get your facts straight

I used to be a pothead, and I have done real college level research on the topic. fist of all, yes it is a gateway drug. I know lots of people who started out using pot, then went onto bigger better things. Don't know anyone who only smoked pot. Yes sometimes drug dealers do lace pot with things like PCP. Havn't experienced it, but know people who have. Moral of that, know your dealer. If you want a truly informed outlook on the topic do some real research...

Your compleatly right. People dont like it because they beleive in the governments lyes and they havent actually smoked it themselves. Stupid bullshit lyes and anti marijuana propaganda from the 1930's like reefer madness (if you havent seen that movie you should, its interesing but it will piss you off at the same time) started a tone of anti marijuana in the country that will take alot of work to compleatly remove. marijuana is the most commonly uses illegal substance in the United States. it is used by many people, most of which aren't your stereotypical "druggie", with no life agead of them. Many of them hapen to be very successful, good people. Think about it almost if not every person who reads this paper will know (even if they don't realize it) at least one if not several regular users of marijuana. Its often made out to be much more harmful htan it really is, unfortunatly not every one realizes this.

What many people don't realize is marijuana is much less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. Yet it's the one of the three that gets a bad rap and is illegal. Marijuana isn't even physicaly addicting. You certanly don't see meetings for marijuana like you do with alcohol and AA. Unfortunatly due to American culture the less harmful of the three is illegal.

The most common reason why marijuana can be harmful is that people can often come across laced marijuana without realizing it. Marijuana can easily be mixed with other more harmful drugs with out the buyer realizing it, until they have already used it. This is a dangerous thing that causes many people to do more harmful, hard core drugs without realizing it. If it were to be legalized the government could provide guide lines, like it does with alchol to insure that people knew what they were putting into their bodies.

Marijuana actually has many helpful benefits toward diseases / sicknesses. Marijuana can reduce nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite caused by AIDS. It can Reduce interlobular pressure, which alleviates the pain and slowing and sometimes even stopping the progress of glaucoma. Common side effects of chemotherapy are nausea, loss of appetite, and vomiting, all of which marijuana would help. It can limit muscle pain and relieve tremor nad unsteadiness of gait for multiple sclerosis patients. Marijuana can help prevent epileptic seizures in some patients. It can also alleviate chronic, often debilitating pain caused by myriad disorders and injuries. Each one of these applications have been deemed legitimate by at least one United States court, legislature, and/or government agency.

Due to these reasons and many others many people are going to jail/prison on a daily basis due to simply smoking a little pot These aren't dangerous criminals that would kill or rape someone. Many of them are teachers, lawyers and respected members of their communities. But yet we still pay thousands of dollars of tax payers money to lock up non dangerous "criminals" yearly even though most aren't going to stop after they get out of jail. Don't you think the money spent here is a waste? Couldn't it be going to more useful things such as hospitals, disease research, or better schools? These are the things that would benifit the people of this country. Certanily you would rather benefit the people more than throwing a non violent pot head in jail who was only trying to smoke a joint and relax after a long days work in jail. There is up to forty million regular (note thats just the regular not occasional users) drug users in the United states. If we were to throw all of them in jail it would cost $500,000 per million people, plus the cost and space of building many more prisons. Couldm't that money be spent on building hospitals? There's already about 1.5 million people tax payers are paying to keep in jail over drugs. From 1990 to 2003, nearly 5.9 million people had been arrested for smoking marijuana. Thats a greater number than the entire population of Alaska, Delaware, The District of Columbia, Montania, North and South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming combined. This country simply can't afford to put 40 million more in jail.

Marijuana should be legalized. It has many uses such as helping sick patients. People are going to smoke it no matter what the government sais, and with out govenment guidelines this can be dangerous. Not to mention the fact that we have no way we can afford to throw all those people in jail. Its much less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, which are legal, so doesn't it make sense that it would be also?

where in the world did you get the idea that it was "healthy"? according to the Mayo Clinic it causes lung cancer just like cigarettes, impairs mental ability including memory. you claim all this wonderful stuff but you do not provide a link to all of this 'evidence'. you should take your own advice about people not knowing what they are talking about, and shut up

In Canadian cities the police even turn a blind eye to small amount in pocession. As for why it should be illegal or not I'd have no answer until i try it. College life HERE I COME ;)
