I work in labor and delivery, and we use amnioinfusion to replace fluid after the patient's water has been broken. It is used for several reasons, including decelerations in the baby's heart beat, or for meconium stained fluid.

I've never heard of this being done to replace amniotic fluid prior to imminent delivery.
