I don't know what the swingweight of a tennis racquet is measured in, but would a swingweight of 338 be ok for a 13 yr old?

Personally, 338 is a little on the heavy swing side for most 13 year olds. Sure you will play fine for about a set or two if you can stay away from 20 ball rallies. However, if you are playing against a good player and have to play a few long rallies, you will feel sluggish in that third set. Ideally you should look for a swingweight around 300. I play with a Prostaff 6.1 classic that has a swingweight of 326, and I have added a small amount of lead tape. My racket is way too heavy for a thirteen year old, unless he is 6'2 and 185 lbs. I have coached many juniors, and they simply do not have the wieght of shot until they reach about 15 or 16, before then they hit with lots of spin, but the ball doesn't jump into you, it just bounces and sits up waiting to be crushed. So when they play against a club pro they get put on the defensive for most of the match. When they get stronger they are able to handle the pace much better and learn to control the rally and put the ball away much more effectively without making as many errors. Finding the right racket can help you learn to hit a heavy ball with control and have sound mechanics throughout the stroke.
