If you are born in a country in which your parents do not have citizenship, then you are automatically a citizen of the country in which you were born, as well as you are a citizen of the country in which your parents hold citizenship. This only works for your grandfather, if his children were born in canada, then they are just canadian citizens, or visa versa if they were born in the states.
