Why do we think we can stop the terrorists. Does anyone realize that we are willingly giving up our freedoms to think that we are safe. No gov't or scanner will be able to stop everything. Why are we all just rolling over and letting the Gov't do as they please all in the name of national security. You fly at your own risk duh!!! Is everyone ready to sue NASA if you get hit with a meteor. Yes we can make controls and should but somethigns are getting extreme. Comments anyone??

I agree with you more than you think Phoenix- I agree a general is for a battlefield that will never exist again. Send in the experts, the LAPD chief. We do have constitutional freedoms, freedom form search and seziure without due process or reasonable cause. El Al airlines has tight security. We as a country have to determine if we want to go that far. El Al wants to know who you sat next to in the 4th grade and how aoften the teacher went potty. I applaud doing the right thing and keeping us safe. As a ticket clerk once told me as I was leading a group of teens on a trip- go on through the gate we are lookign for terrorists not a bunch of kids, yet many laws today are blanket. I'm not racist, but if a certian people grp has a history it is onyl human to be wary of that grp.

I disagree with you on pretty much every level. I think the government has the power to keep us safe, has the resources, and has the manpower. The problem is, we're trying to fight a conventional war against an unconventional foe. I could almost guarantee you the Police Chief for the LAPD would be better suited to fight the terrorists than most of our generals. Why? Because he has spent his entire career fighting cartels, drug rings, and gangs - all of which are a domestic foe, hiding among civilians, living among them, and doing business under our noses.

The other problem is that Americans are too stuck up with all the frivolous equality liberal crap and useless freedoms. The freedom of privacy is not directly written into the constitution, and I would gladly allow the government to tap my phone if they thought I was a national threat. Just because the government can spy on you and invade your privacy, doesn't mean they will.

The other problem is how people are so against profiling. Instead of just taking a closer look at the Muslims and the Arabs, they ruin travel for everyone. I can't remember any time in history when a teenage girl has committed mass murder through terrorism. Why are they being targeted? We know who the serious threats are, and they are Muslim extremists, so why not single them out?

One last problem is we are reacting to terrorism, rather than being activist against it. The American public is too stupid to realize that if the government tightened security a lot, and looked for devices that haven't been used yet, the people would get angry because they are inconvenienced. Only once someone tries to take explosives onto an airplane is when they start new checkpoints to look for that kind. The odds are they aren't going to be using the same tactics again, especially if it failed once. Airport security should be tight. Tight as hell. I'm thinking - dogs, cameras, profiling, background checks, thorough bag searches, scanners, chemical sniffers, metal detectors, etc. The state of the world now doesn't allow us to take the convenient 20 minute check-in to an airplane.

Totally agree.

I think they know this but they don't want to admit that they have been wrong because they would lose the few gullible people that still support them.
