Why are employers so obsessed with experience for dumb jobs like shop assisting? fast food etc?

Jobs you could pick up in a day or so.

Or experience in general

Robin as not an ego lead ****...

I would use my brain as a boss and esee the job as one for a young person for pocket money and not expect them to stay in it but want to better themself. Or an old perosn looking for something to get them out the house and socialise...

Empyers should let brains not egos rule

Yes I spotted the typos...

In fact I would see self with the young ones as sort of helping them grow up... mentoring etc...

Experience? Oh, like a reference from a previous employer that says you work diligently, thrive under pressure, play for the team, don't bring personal problems in with you, that week by month by year, you're on time every day, always ready to help, always polite and happy to serve. That you have to succeed, and your efforts gathers you a loyal customer following.
I've worked in retail, selling electronic goods - computers and peripherals, cameras, cam-corders, VCR's, TV's and Hi-Fi in one store, and quality jewellery and watches in other stores. Neither jobs could be learnt in a day! Both required keen interest, prior knowledge, and involved ongoing training, to ensure I knew exactly what I was talking about, as you can't sell what you don't understand. That's the difference between someone doing the bare minimum to get their wage on Friday, and someone making a career of being the best damn retailer they can be - and I know which one I'd rather deal with!

I'm Alan Sugar, and because of your lousy attitude, you're fired!

Well... because if someone stays in a job for a while, he might be more likely to be stable than someon that moves job every month.

And mostly because everybody is not necessary able to be a skilled shop assistant. Some in my town do not know what they are selling in the shop they are working in, so they send me to their competitors' shops... useful for their boss isn't it?

You may think you could pick it up in a day or two and that its 'dumb' but that's just your arrogance.
When you receive bad service, are sold the wrong product or have to deal with an indifferent or rude assistant it probably just confirms your suspicion that its a dumb job, there's nothing to it, or anyone could do it.
We're not all rocket scientists, but we're not all rude enough to grade the work that others do on how dumb we think it is.

I know what you mean it can get so fussy! I guess they want the person they'll have to work the least amount on.

What annoys me is the chain that this sets off - any job needs experience, but nobody will offer you the chance to gain experience because you haven't got any experience! AArgh!
