Am I old or have I wittnessed terms like gay, queer, retard, ni**er,
etc. , used in common conversation...for example 20 years ago "that's gay, you are gay "etc. was not meant as you are a homosexual you are so happy etc.
Calling people gay is kind of on the outs .and I understand it was not often used top be cruel.
I notice that particular attention is paid to an issue before it is consciously addressed like bi-racial families are not an issue at all when 20 years ago it was a death sentance in some places
CAN PEOPLE PLEASE ADDRESS THE WORD RETARD ???
IT IS IN ALOT OF MOVIES ETC. JUST DO NOT USE IT disability awareness is also at an all time high..Do you see thie connection? If you have read this far then you probably are not the demographic I wouldl ike to ask. Any ideas? thanks :)

I totally understand where you're coming from, and I think people are using a lot more words that are just plain nasty. However, I think the reason is because we're freaking tired of all this political correctness, and some people choose to express that in less than desirable ways.
(And, for the record, I believe that many people who would be clinically diagnosed as retarded are smarter than many of the people I would call retards, so I try not to use that term, as it's an insult to the mentally challenged among us.)

Some people use the word "retard" in a very innocent way and some don't... After all, it has more than one meaning and only one of them involves the disabled. If you don't think the word should be used then don't use it. Try "evolving" yourself by not being so reactionary to the supposed ignorance of others.

My mom has been disabled my whole life and in my family we don't let things like this get to us... If you do, you will be upset each day... You can't live your life like an open wound. The world is not a political correct place and you shouldn't expect it to be... You will only be disappointed.

It's a slippery slope when we start deciding what words can and should be used. Where should it end?

Idiot and moron were once technical terms that were only used by mental health professionals. Then the words became common insults and new technical terms were found to replace them.

This is the way that language changes over the years. I think that it is too late for the word "retard."

The professionals will find another word to use if they have not already. Aren't they now using "autistic" instead?

Dear member,

a lot of people are growing up very liberally especially in America and they are mean and usually ignorant so they talk with an ego that will not usually exist when they're under their parent's roofs.

Example kids curse over and over and bicker over petty things all the time even online games and etc.

kind regards,
ben
