Baucis and Philemon. They were an old, old couple who lived in a little dinky hut in rural Greece.

Zeus walked by one day disguised as an old beggar, and he kept trying to get people to give him hospitality, but nobody would. Finally, he came to the hut of Baucis and Philemon, and they invited him in, welcoming him with the little that they had.

Mysteriously, their wine flowed and didn't run out, their olives and figs overflowed their bowls, and food kept reappearing after it was eaten. Eventually, the jig was up--Zeus removed his disguise and granted the couple a wish for being so kind to an old beggar.

The couple said that they had had a lovely life and they didn't ever want to be parted. Zeus gave them many more happy years and they died at the exact same moment. He turned them into trees which grew together in their yard, their branches entertwining forever.

I think that story is absolutely beautiful and it makes me happy every time I think of it.

The Trojan War. I get my hands on anything on the subject. Obviously, I was eager to see the recent movie, Troy.

I have reason to believe the story is true based on a wealth of information I have come upon. The most intriguing is that the major characters, Helen (the face that launched a thousand ships), Achilles and Hector, reincarnated together in the US in the 1930's and had to work out things among them.

Who knows? Perhaps, I was there with them at Troy too. LOL

The Trojan War Epic is one I have liked since I was quite young. I read some about it in encyclopedias. At last, when I was age ten, I managed to acquire copies of Iliad and Odyssey. When other kids wanted to play Cops & Robbers or Cowboys & Indians, I wanted to play Trojans & Achaeans, and I was Achilles the biggest, strongest and swiftest man on either side.

Vampires come in second for the same reason.

Then Chupicabra...love that lil dude!

Mermaids...

I just like the idea of a fish that can communicate with humans in general. It doesn't have to be half naked, nor wear silly shell bras to make me happy to see it! I love the idea of them!

Is it strange that I also fish a lot? o.O
