First of all, let me distinguish the terms college and university for you. In America, college and university are essentially the same, however, if there is a distinction between the two - colleges are smaller than universities, and for an institution to qualify as a university, it must have multiples schools (or colleges) within the university. I hope I didn't confuse you there.

Many were responding that you need to be a U.S. citizen to be accepted and attend, that is not true, although it is much more difficult to get scholarship money, ect if you are not a citizen, but most schools are anxious to attract international students.

If you want to apply to American schools, I suggest that you start by identifying colleges/universities that interest you. When I first started researching colleges, I found the Princeton Review most helpful - you can access this website at review.com. Here they will provide you with a questionaire that will help them identify which schools would be the best fit for you. They will also let you know what the admission requirements are for each school and provide you with the links to each school's website. Check it out! Good luck!

Different universitites have different requirements. You have to call the university that you want to attend, and ask them to send you an application. The application will explain all the materials you need and tests you need to take. You fill out the application, and send it in along with the other required materials.

Generally speaking, you will usually need:
1. A high school diploma or G.E.D. You will have to send a high school transcript with your application in most cases.
2. An SAT score. That is the Scholastic Aptitute Test administered by Educational Testing Systems. You must take it at least once to gain admission most US colleges.
3. Two or three recommendations from teachers, guidance counselors, employers, or someone else not related to you.
4. An essay telling about yourself (it's usually part of the application).

If you're interested, first research the different universities until you find a few that you like. Then write to them or call and get applications. Edited to add: Okay, I'm old. Nowadays you can download or even fill out applications online too.

You would need to meet the minimum entry requirements, in the US these are done though SAT's. The more prestigious the college, the higher the SAT score they require. They will also accept foreign equivalents, such as A-Levels. If you telephone the relevant college they will tell you what they will accept.

If you find that you have the grades, you can apply like any normal student. If you get in the college will apply for a student visa on your behalf.

As for funding, you apply to your local education authority/SAAS in the usual way, but state on the form that you will be studying abroad. They will then pay your tuition fees for you and you are entitled to a student loan that is the UK max+ 1000 pounds. They will also give you £250 towards your plane tickets (you buy them and they reimburse you).

Good Luck

Don't listen to the first response. You may apply for entry into any university in the United States. Once you have been accepted to an accredited university in the US you need to apply for an obtain a student visa to enter the country. You will need to make sure you list yourself as a non-citizen/international student on the application and fill out the section regarding your country of origin. Most universities have applications available online to be filled out and submitted electronically. You must have completed high school or whatever is equivelent in your country. You do NOT have to take the SAT but rather once you begin classes you will be asked to complete an English proficency exam to make sure you understand English well enough that you won't get lost during lectures and classes. Best Wishes!

First of all, Fulbright Awards are only for post-undergraduate work. You need to hold a bachelors' degree before you're even eligible. That's true for Americans traveling abroad, and I assume the same is true for students traveling to America. Fulbright awards are also extremely hard to get. There are many other scholarship options. Talk to the financial aid office at the university you're hoping to attend, talk to a professor in your intended field, and search online. You didn't mention your major, so it's hard to make any more specific recommendations.

You need a high school diploma or GED.
You need to takes the SAT and ACT tests.

Then all you need to do is submit an application with the above information. To be honest, I'm not sure if there is anything required additionally if you're from another country, possibly a Visa? I don't know, I hope this helps.

You need to be an American Citizen or currently applying for American Citizenship. I think. I've never not been American. College and University are the same thing. There are Universities that you can attend, or there are technical colleges.
