That's a great question.
I don't know the answer but am fairly certain it will not be the USA.
The other two countries are working just as hard as we ONCE did in manufacturing and we seem to be going the way of the dinosaurs. I can't prove it but I feel it and I certainly hope I am wrong.

No.1 in terms of what? GDP? Probably China (but I have a feeling there won't be a China in 2050; North and South may part ways at some point). GDP per capita? Depends on where oil prices go. If they stay low, probably Luxembourg, just as it is today. If they stay high, probably Norway.

China- it owns our debt and is building infrastructure like mad, with a population base of approximately 1/3 of the world's population. We all should brush up on our Mandarin, I know I am.
India- has a population base, but is otherwise is poor by comparison. It will take slower to reach the top, and probably won't surpass China, which is leaps and bounds ahead of the game.
U.S.A.- is all ready dropping. Unless it comes up with the latest, greatest economic wonder, we'll probably wind up lagging.

If either 3 of those countries exist at that time I would be surprised. I would pick China though.
