It depends on the event and the number of people attending. Where are you going? Is it far enough to fly? How many hotel rooms will you need? Is there a budget? How many rental cars (if any) will you need? I can help you with this answer but I need a little more information. Some of the airlines, hotels, and rental car companies offer group rates. It might be best to setup accounts with an airline, hotel chain, and rental car company before making any travel arrangements.
Our company used to use a travel agent, but figured out that we could travel cheaper by setting up corporate accounts with airlines, rental car companies, and hotel chains, and having someone in house make the arrangements. It has been working wonderfully for us.

My husband travels a lot and at first he books through his company, they have a travel company that books his room, flight, and rental car. He now books his own trips, and he uses a corporate credit card. We get a lot of reward points for free vacations.
If its for vacation and not business you should be able to go your company's web site and look under benefits. They should have a list of company's with corporate numbers that will need to be entered when you book your room and flight.

Use a good travel agent. Believe me(I owned an agency) it will pay off to have someone do the work. They can get the best prices very quickly and your time certainly must be worth something.

Depends on if you've worked out a deal on flight hours with a private aircraft outfit. Those boys are expensive. If you're under three million - it sounds painful!

Doesn't everybody just tell his/her secretary where and when he wants to go? Don't they print out your itinerary and lay a copy on your desk?
