by car, the drive is absolutely beautiful, but train or boat is another option (boat would be beautiful too) as parking is hard in Positano.

It depends.

If you want to go directly from Napoli to Positano, then I suggest you rent a car in Naples.

If on the other hand you want to sight see ( which I highly recommend ), then I suggest you take a train from the Napoli Centrale train station and travel to Sorrento where you will have to disembark as it is the end of the line. From there, you can either take a private water taxi, a ferry or rent a small car to travel the very winding, narrow and fast roads.

I am not sure, but there might also be a ferry from the Naples harbor to Positano.

Enjoy!

"Positano and the Amalfi Coast can be reached by various methods of transport.

By aeroplane one arrives at Naples airport and from here visitors should proceed onwards for the Coast and Positano.

By train one reaches the various railway stations of Naples or that of Salerno, from the North and South of the Amalfi Coast respectively.

By car travellers arriving from both North and South should exit the A3 Motorway at Vietri sul Mare. It is not advisable to drive along the Amalfi Coast during the summer months, and in fact each year new measures are enforced in an attempt to limit traffic, which reaches its highest intensity in the month of August when circulation is extremely difficult.

By boat, during the summer season, there are connections from Naples, Sorrento and Salerno for the destinations along the Amalfi Coast."
