At the end of A Day in The Life on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band by The Beatles, about 5 minutes and 10 seconds into the song they weird distorted voices and strange noises play for about 10-15 seconds before the album ends. Does anyone else have this on their album or know what it means?

In 1967 most record players did not have an auto return to lift the needle off the record; it played the inner groove ad infinitum. On every other record the inner groove just made a scratching sound, but the Beatles, ever the experimenters, thought a good way to end such a psychedlic album would be to add a few seconds of gibberish which would play over and over until you lifted the needle. This noise was on the British (Parlophone) LP but not the American (Capitol) version.

Some people were convinced that it contained a hidden message and played it backwards. Apparently it sounds like 'We'll f*** you like Superman', but Paul McCartney denied in Rolling Stone magazine this was deliberate. It does not refer to the 'Paul is Dead' rumours, which were circulated in 1969.

Great album, isn't it?

What people haven't mentioned yet is that there are a whole bunch of "clues" in Sgt. Pepper indicating that Paul is dead. Play parts of the album backwords and you'll hear things like the phrases described above as well as things like "turn me on, dead man."

Though the Beatles denied it, many people believe this was a publicity stunt. Snopes.com used to have really good coverage of it, but it seems to have been taken down.

Here's the wikipedia article:

Interesting stuff.

Are you KIDDING??!!! That was recorded on very few albums. It was meant as a practical joke/publicity stunt by the Beatles, in the wake of the "Paul is Dead" rumors. Wow! Oh....wait a minute....just kidding.

You're a younger fan aren't you? Originally there was a lot of hoo-haw about the very subject you are asking about. There was a literal panic going on with rumors that Paul was dead and also rumors that they were worshipping Satan. All in all, its just backmasking being played "backwards" of course. It sure stirred the s%#t back in '68.

The Beatles put that on purpose to get people to try and find it when they were listening to the LP.
