Personally, I cannot wait for him to figure out that you cannot buy a World Series Championship. I think he just might get the clue this year when they don't even make it to the WS.

Im a Yankees fan and i understand why everyone says he tried to buy the championship but i dont understand why everyone has a problem with it. He wants to win. Hes not even in the top 10 riches baseball owner. The owner of the Royals owns Walmart.
Anyway, i also dont think he bought the world series he did win. The core of those late 90s teams was Jeter, Bernie, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte, and Oneill. All except Oneill came up through the system and Oneill wasnt a star til he was in NY.
Also i think hes learned his lesson a little. The future of the Yankees is in the farm system but few people realize. Next year or the year after Phil Hughes will be in the rotation. Melky Cabrera is already getting playing time and will continue to get until Abreu's deal is up. Then Jose Tabata will take Cabreras role. JB. Cox could be Riveras eventual replacement. Tyler Clippard will be in the rotation in the future as well. there are more but i dont want to type it all out.
Just wondering why everyone gets all over the Yankees for buying players but the Red Sox won the world series with no body who came up through their system. The Mets are trying to buy there way to a world series- and dont say there not because they have wright and reyes. The yankees had Jeter and the core i mentioned before and Cano and Cabrera and Wang.

I think Steinbrenner has kind of ruined the sport by trying to buy the pennant. The team that I support, Blue Jays, are out of running this year also althought they have some great players and often give the Yankees a good run for their money playing against them. Lets get back to players playing for the fun of it and not who will sign them for the biggest cheque and then perhaps it will once again be a sport rather than a big business.

Steinbrenner ROCKS!!!!!! Yes, I'm a Yankee fan and don't you dare say anything bad about our owner or anyone on our team, man. You're all jealous that Steinbrenner has more money then your owner. Well, to bad!!!!! Steinbrenner belongs to us Yanks and he gets the BEST players EVER!!!!! That's why the New York Yankees are the best baseball team in the whole world! GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!:-) :-)

Your just mad that the owner of your team doesn't have the balls to go out and spend for what he wants. People might say that he is wrong for paying what he does for the championship but that's the beauty of it. IT'S HIS MONEY. No one tells you what to do with your money do they? so why criticize him for doing what he wants.

I wish my team's owner would have that kind of passion, but he's terrible for baseball. How much money can he afford to lose on overpriced contracts for over-the-hill players?
