I also disagree. No question is a stupid questions; whether is was asked by a boy or girl. I am also a female hockey player, and I have a very rough second season (rec. bantam boys do not like the idea of a girl on the team). But this is going to be my third, and I cannot wait. Maybe I will make the travel team maybe not. But either way I will play my sport. Tell that boy that if that is what he thinks then maybe he does not belong at an ice hockey rink.

I also totally disagree. I live in Canada and can tell you that our female hockey players played a much more enjoyable hockey series in past couple of Olympics. There game was fast, clean and very defensive. There game was not better just because they won but because they played with heart, something a lot of millionaire male players seem to be playing without nowadays. It seems that these "pros" are only playing for a paycheque now. So hold your head high and discuss female hockey, which is a pretty fast growing sport, to anyone who will listen. And those that don't have an open mind regarding girls playing hockey, well you can either give them a good body check (Ha! just joking) or not discuss it with them. Best of luck in your hockey career.

The guy is an idiot..
I have been involved in youth hockey at all levels for many years.. there are plenty of 'girls' playig the sport that are just as tough as the men., in some cases, tougher...
Ice Hockey is the only sport that I can recall women playing professionally against men.. Manon Rheaume, only thing that hurt her in the net for Tampa was her size.. she had trouble with shots over the shoulder over the blocker, part of the reason she didn;t make it out of the ECHL, sans a one period exhibition for the Lighting about a decade ago.. Several women have played in the Swedish elite league, and while their success may be tempered, it's a heck of lot more sucessful than you, me or that idiot probably will ever see..
Both the US and Canada's woman's olympic hockey teams have been very successful and both teams could probabaly beat more than half of the division I college teams in the US..
My ten year enjoys playing goal as a 'substitute' goalie for the 14 year old girls team in our area because they shoot hard enough and , well, they are 14 year old girls making a fuss over a ten year old goalie, but that's another story.. bottom line is in his eyes, they are hockey players..
Heck the guy that made that statement probably doesn;t even play hockey or know how to skate, or he'd know better..

Well he has his opinion and I will fight to ensure he has the right to express it, even as wrong as it sounds to most of us. You see, the thing about hockey players, is that, well, they are hockey players. We play for the love of the sport and whether this love affair started when we were 2 years old or when we were 42 years old, everybody should be allowed to join this clique if they wish. While hockey is not gender blind, I for one can tell you that one of the hardest body checks ever delivered on me was when I was coaching a triple AAA Boys (primarily) Bantam hockey team, was from a a 15-year old girl. We had a coaches/parents versus players end of year game and I played major junior and I am not a small guy and she hit me hard enough to shift me about a foot and a half on the ice. And she has gone on to great things in this wonderful world of hockey and I am proud to say I had a small part in her development. She is one of our heroes.

This guy's totally wrong. I think female players are just as good as their male counterparts, maybe even better. There are some very good female hockey players out there. Look at Hayley Wickenheiser or Cassie Campbell. Next time you see that guy, mention their names and make sure to remind him that the women's team won the gold medal at the Olympics while the men lost in the quarters!

Huh? Let me get this right, despite Canada's women's teams winning Olympic Gold and World Championships, we still have cro-magnum guys thinking women cannot play hockey.
Un-freakin'-believable!
Send Gillian Apps over to whack some sense into that dude.

I think it is great that women play ice hockey. I know a few who are related to some acquaintances of mine. Guys like him are forever stuck in the Dark Ages.

As long as you are able to play go for it. Just because we may not be a strong as some guys doesnt mean girls cant play. I love to play hockey.
