Hunny, Anti -viruses and spy-ware software. etc.. is not 100% proven. First, How much memory your PC have, the max for window XP 512MB, also by the little clock in your PC make sure you don't have active icons that you don't use, if you do, disable the ones that you don't use. what type of Internet connection you have, how fast? how many window you have open in the same time?, do you clean your cookies, temps files? Also, make sure that you update every program in your PC. if you are in Yahoo messenger, it will slow your PC. lots of spam in chat rooms, make sure you don't allow bot in your box when you chating, if you do. make sure that you don't download programs that you don't know if is secured. go in add an removed and deleted programs that you don't used. check your PC performance. Hi. System slow... hmmmm.. this is very common...Not to worry..
Well let me tell u.. the issue can be with the hard ware of the sysetm as well as with the software..
Well first scan the system for any virus or spyware. I am providing you a link that will help you scn and also fix the issue. Please download ccleaner and then scn your system. It will give you the issues your system is facing... then fix the same.
Here is the link for it
http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10547048.html?tag=lst-0-1
If this does not work...first check what amount of RAM is installed on the system.. it sould of course be more than 128 Mb.. however if youuse high end video games or large applications or do multi tasking or mutiprogramming on the system, I would suggest you to use at least 1 GB of RAM on the system.
Also check what amount of free hard drive space is available on the system.. It should be more than 2 GB. If all this is fine.. there might me some bad sector on the hard drive tht cuse the system to slow down..
hope this works..

I don't know what is wrong with your computer, but a good place to start would be cleaning out your web history. (This is assuming you have a PC) Go to the start menu, click on either settings and then control panel or just control panel. Go to internet options, and a window should pop up. On the first tab find the area that says Browsing history and click on delete. Now look at the section called Temporary Internet Files and click delete files. All this does is delete extra information you computer stores every time you go onto a web page. Copies of web pages, images and media that just takes up space. The longer this takes the better because this means the computer is deleting a lot of unnecessary information. I hope this helps your computer, and deleting the temporary internet files should be done ever few months anyway.

We've had this same problem. Here are things we have had to correct on our computer - low memory (lots of pictures take up space), low ram memory, screen savers and other programs that run continually take up memory that you need to run programs. Also, if your computer is more than four years old; you might need to upgrade. I think the best thing we did since we are not real computer savy was to take our computer to Best Buy and let a Geek test it. They were able to diagnose and suggest upgrades. They will also get rid of unnecessary files and condense to help our computer run faster. Good Luck.

Sometimes computers with Windows OS do the same when their hard drives are loaded with too many software. Specially those softwares which we can find easily from the internet without knowing the bad side of them.

Sometimes the startup programs are too many comparing with the size of the RAM.

You say you scanned but don't say what the results were. I am going to assume (you know the saying about A*S U ME) you scans were clean. Go to this site and go through the 10 areas and see if your computer speeds up. Many times a slow computer is not due to an infection.
