1984 is one of my favourite books and way ahead of it's time. It doesn't depress me to read such things, in fact, it only opens my eyes to what's really going on. I shouldn't go into detail cause, as you know, 'Big Brother' is watching. :)

No, I was on a total high after finishing 1984, though it was more an "Oh my GOD how have I not read this before it's amazing!!!!!!!" high than "Oh, wow, we're gonna end up just like this" thing.
It doesn't depress me, because I don't believe that the world will end up like a dystopian novel. It's a very effective warning, but only that. We're in 2006 and Stalin is dead, so for now, society is safe.

Hey, I lived under Communism for the first part of my life and I survived. I was glad someone in the West understood us back in 1948 after the Westerners had sold us over.
"A Beautiful World" was not depressing either. It's just a warning. A wake-up call.

1984 was more depressing, I never felt BNW was realistic enough to be a possible future.

No. I wish the world was not that way, but I know what is real and what is not. You should also read Fahrenheit 451.

Those are two of my all-time favorites. They don't make me more depressed, but they help me to stay awake to Big Brother.
