I would have to say Good Start mainly because it is cheaper than the big named formulas...ultimately though it might be a trial error method for you. Most times the formulas are very similar in the content (check the side of the panel) make sure it has the DHA for brain development and hope your baby is not sensitive to regular formula and will need soy formula. Good luck!
P.S. didn't the hospital give you a diaper bag with the coupons and it also had a can of formula? local hospitals around here always have those gifts for new Moms

Both my boys were colicky. With my first son, we tried several kinds. Finally his pediatrician put him on Enfamil Nutramigen (cost double what regular Enfamil costs, but it did the trick!). He was on that until he was 4 months old and eating cereal. His ped. said to switch him to Good Start cold turkey. We were SO nervous...it worked though. I have a feeling that we probably could have used that instead of the Nutramigen and saved a bundle. But, we were new parents and wanted to stay within the Enfamil family of formulas so as to not upset his digestive system any more than it already was.
With my second son, he was also colicky, but he was a Similac baby. After trying everything in the Similac line (except for the Alimentum--the Similac equivalent of Nutramigen) we switched him to Carnation Good Start. We had had such luck with it with our first son, we gave it a shot before trying the super expensive stuff, and it worked too!
If we decide down the road to have another baby, we're going to skip all the free samples the hospital gives out and put our next baby right on Good Start. It's great!

Hi! Almost every formula out there is *okay* for your baby to use, as it has to meet the minimum nutritional requirements of the "Infant Formula Act", and FDA.
Please read this article when you can, as it's chock full of good information & on the different types of baby formula out there.
http://pediatrics.about.com/od/weeklyquestion/a/04_baby_formula.htm
This was also on the page, a poll they did with parents who use formula...
Which brand of infant formula do you use?
Mead Johnson (Enfamil) (2906)
40%
Ross (Similac) (1961)
27%
Nestle (Carnation) (1144)
15%
Store Brand (Target, Wal-Mart, etc) (904)
12%
Other (321)
4%
So whatever you choose, good for you for caring enough to want the best for your baby. :)

All formulas are basically the same. Look on the labels & compare. I used Parent's choice for both of my girls. It's much cheaper & exactly the same as the high priced name brands. The reason that docs & hospitals push certain brands is because the formula companies pay them to.

our ped has told us that brand is essentially unimportant because most formulas on the market are about the same nutritionally. that being said, it should depend partially on what your personal philosophy is. for instance, a friend of mine is feeding her baby strictly organic food, including formula. others are driven by what their babies are/are not allergic to. assuming your baby isn't overly sensitive and isn't prone to allergies, it probably shouldn't matter as much. but frequent switching probably isn't a good idea. i personally stock up on what's readily available when it's on sale, namely similac and enfamil (i prefer the latter). i've also tried free samples from parents' choice and bright beginnings. they're not much different, really. if what you're currently using is working, then i wouldn't bother changing it.
good luck!

I prefer Similac or Isomil. Isomil is soy similac. It is really good if your baby spits up a lot. Before switching, though, I would talk to your pediatrician because there are formulas out there that have high amounts of nutrients that aren't necessary for a healthy baby.

My first two babies did real good on Carnation Good Start. My Last was on Enfamil. Carnation was awesome. When my Babies would spit up, it never stained the clothes and it didn't smell as bad as the others. But remember, you cant switch too much, you could mess up the babies stomach. You have to give him/her a couple of weeks to get used to it. My first two could not tolerate anything other then Carnation Good Start. Talk to the Pediatrician and see what they think is best.Good luck

I used Parent's Choice by Wal-Mart.
All formula is regulated by FDA and must contain certain ingredients.
If you switch between formulas slowly add the new one to the old to avoid tummy upsets.
Name brand formula's supply hospitals formula and give them grants for using their formula, that is why they are more expensive. You are paying for their advertising.

the brand isn't really that important. for example, i shop at target and my son's pediatrician told me that target brand formula is just fine and it's a lot less expensive. the important thing about formula is to make sure it has dha and ara. nutrients that help w/ eye and brain developement. also remember, when it comes to what type of formula (i.e. milk based, soy based, ect.) it is a matter of trail and error for many babies. if you start your baby on milk based formula, watch for allergic reactions like excessive throwing-up, diahrea, etc and then speak to your pediatrician to make any necessary changes to your baby's diet.

We use Good Start - it's affordable and good quality. I can't get it in Canada but I've heard wonderful things about the Target brand formula.
