I know this philosophical question has been asked a million or more times, but I'd still like people's opinions. Here's mine. If the egg referred to is a chicken egg, then I don't know the answer. However, the egg is never specified. The question isn't "Which came first, the chicken or the chicken egg?" I take the evolutionary, as opposed to the biblical, side. Dinosaurs laid eggs (even though they didn't look like the eggs we know) long before chickens even evolved. So that's my answer. Please don't tell me I'm wrong if my opinion doesn't match yours. I'd like to know what everyone else thinks, please. Thanks.

The reason this question has been around for so long, and asked so many times, is because it basically asks what you believe.
If you believe in the Judeo-Christian (and I think Muslim too) version of creation, then the chicken came first. It was created out of nothing by god, then laid the egg to make the next generation of chickens.
If you believe in evolution, the egg came first. The first chicken egg was laid by a creature that was almost, but not quite, a chicken. The embryo in the egg was a mutated version of this predecessor, and happened to be just a bit better suited to continued existence, and propagated the species now known as "chickens".

Well, Studies have shown that life started with a single cell organism. This was figured by the adaptation that they grew to multiple cells which were mammals. So the correct answer would be "The chicken came before the egg.

well if ur a christian and u believe that God created the world and all living things in the first 7 days of life, then the chicken came first b/c God didn't create a chicken egg and placed it on earth and waited for it to hatch- the chickens were born adults, as were adam and eve and reproduced later.

Which came first - the chicken or the egg? "The chicken" came first - in the sentence of the question. If the question is phrased differently, the answer is different.

I'm not a believer, but let's use the story of Adam & Eve to decide. Good a method as any, eh?

Adam and Eve came into the world whole. Eve may have been made from Adam, but she simply popped up, fully grown.

It seems likely that the same thing would happen to animals. The first animal would appear fully grown.

Here's a better argument - if the egg came first, who kept it warm so it would hatch?

Well, since I am a believer in God, then regardless of what kind of egg it is, I believe God created animals first and eggs were being layed by animals who lay them after creation. So, the chicken came first, regardless of the type of egg.

That is an unanswerable question depending on what view you take. It really shouldn't matter anyway, there's no real reason to care about it! If you really do it's the chicken, and that'd be from a religious view, if you don't like that than too bad!

Well, i think
when G-d made all teh animals he made them all 2 by 2 and not in a child state but as an adult so they will have to find out all teh stuff by them self, and its like an easy shortcut
