Yeah, sorry I couldn't get Cyrillics to work, so, the translitteration is rather poor, as I'm not a linguist.

No! I do not mean Chupacabra.
Chiburachka is a Russian "animal" from Kid's stories.

Thanks though for the attempts! :-D

Well... I've got no exact idea... I ran through my Russian dictionary and could not find it. So, I'm going to give you my closest guess.

Cheburek is the word for a meat filled pastry or pirogi, often found in the Kavkaz or Crimean regions (they also have them in the Balkans and they are very tasty...). It is common in the Russian language to make a word/name somewhat endearing by adding an ending such as -ka or -chka, usually in reference to a small child or a loved one. For example, the Russian name "Misha" (like Mike) becomes "Mishenka" by adding -enka. The Russian name "Styopa" (like Steve), becomes Styopochka. Again, this might be how a parent would address thier child, or how two very close friends might address each other.

So... to make a long story short, and without knowing the context of the story that involves this animal referred to as Chiburachka, I'm going to guess that it is a name being used to refer to a pet of some sort, or some animal for which the person in the story has some sort of attraction or compassion for.

Hopefully a native speaker will chime in and enlighten us as this name may be a coloquial term with a specific animal in mind.

Hope that helps! (P.S. I'd be interested in more info on the story. That might help solve the mystery. Good luck!)

Chupacabra is a mysterious creature first sited in Puerto Rico. It is known as the goat blood sucker or goat sucker. Who knows what kind of animal or life form it is. It is said it sends it long spiked tongue piercing through the skin of its livestock victims sucking the blood out of them and leaving a bloodless carcass with two pin point holes. It is said that the US Military might have something to do with it. Its now been sighted in Miami Florida as well as many other Latin American countries. There is no conclusive evidence that it does exist, but many people would tell you differently. There are alot of Cryptozoologists looking for evidence of it. I seem to think it could be related to the Mothman, it has gloaming red eves and has the ability to fly...Who knows? But it is sure interesting to talk about. Maybe someday someone will get to the bottom of this legend, but there are many more questions than answers on this one. Great question!!!
