I know this is corny, but . . .
Pictures of the people/things back home that you miss, so you won't miss them as much. This could be family, pets, friends, places in your hometown, etc.
This assumes you are going away to school, of course . . . .
This also gives you natural conversation starters when someone you are interested in sees them. :o}

A brown permanent marker. That's what I decorate the walls of my room with. Lots of exotic and random designs. And I like viney plants. Tie twine from the plant to the celing for them to climb and it looks really cool! I also like lacey doilies... I put them under everything. But then again... I'm a girl....

Sports posters, if you like them. Or movie posters. Heck any kind of posters, lol. If it's small... you should consider building a loft bed. Search on google for those. they're cool, don't take up much room, and under them is plenty of room for a desk, dresser, fridge, etc.

If you have roomates.... Something that isn't too terribly offensive- keep in mind you're sharing the space and they have to look at it too!
If no roomates... Whatever you want! Go as crazy as you'd like... Just don't damage the walls or they'll charge you for that on move out!

You have to consider the color of the wall. and try to figure out the things that are coordinated with your taste or the concept you to show.

hot babes and cool colors and maybe a hobby of some sort or collection u can display looks cool dont over do it though goodluck.

reflect yourself, if you like music, get some posters of bands,
or be lazy and cover up space by piling stuff on dressers to make your wall not visible
