what makes you think that the Chinese have better technology? They don't. They have lots of cheap labor and determination. But they don't have better technology.

I'm guessing you meant Japanese technology, cause Chinese technology is somewhat inferior right now (but with all the stuff they're stealing from other parts of the world, I'm sure they'll catch up soon).
The reason why technology in Asia is so advanced is because they spend a lot of money doing that researching stuff. Right now they're doing stuff in robotics that I have yet to hear from in other parts of the world (so don't be surprised if the Japanese develop mechs and robots that resemble humans and can move like them as well hehe). While many around the world probably consider that stuff a waste of time, the Japanese are willing to spend time/money on that stuff, probably just to see what would happen if they built it.
I think a lot of that stuff also came out of necessity. Japan builds cars that are pretty superior to most other car companies in the world. They're generally more reliable and less likely to break down, which is why American car companies are falling behind now (my friends always tell me how their american brand cars break a lot, but foreign, esp. japanese cars, usually will run for a long time without much maintenance, which is why they buy that their cars more. American car companies don't seem to be able to figure out why their cars suck).

Hmmm How is Chinese technology better than ours? They are catching up with occidentals for many reasons, but hardly through superior technology...
It is easier for a country that is worse-off to converge economically. This is because they have less capital and so less depreciation of capital, they start to have a savings rate and so can invest, investing means growth, we cannot save more because we already have high savings and comparably high depreciation. They also use our technology which for them is superior and they grow faster as a result. They also can make improvements in infrastructure and health that we already have and so grow more again...etc etc. They grow through increasing the labor force and accumulation of capital, but probably not yet through TFP (gains from R&D, & better organisation)
They do have better ice-cream and chinese food than the UK, but I am not sure what this has to do with psychology.

It has more to do with the fact that environmental laws are very weak in China. In many cases, the engineering is done outside of China and just the manufacturing gets done in the country.
There is also a lot of reverse engineering. Get a great product, take it apart, and learn how to build the same thing cheaper. That is probably the greatest contributor to any perceived technical superiority.

I think feel that Japan's technologically surpasses every country not just UK, mainly because that's what they focus on. Other countries focus more on security, defence, business, tourism etc., Japanese have a fascination with electronics so what better way to feed that than to explore it.
Think it all began with the race to the moon, being a communist country, they produced alot of equipment, parts and blue prints for then mother Russia.

That is their special talent not all are technical people, but I know what your saying,. Our mobile phone technology is getting better by the day. I would say that they own a lot of companies and royalties on a wide range of techno gadgets and gizmos they are the best when it comes to their technology, they had light 5000 yrs ago that could be seen a good couple of miles away, so that is sayin something.

We know how to reverse engineer everything to make it better. We are better at obtaining this technology for our own use. The Government supports the procurement of technology and with over 1 billion people in China and many more overseas, the support is there. There are no enviornmental rules, human rights or weapons testing procedures to slow us down.

well they're more competetive, even from childhood thay are taught to be the best and that the rest is worthless. discipleine....loads of things but my favourite answear is one that a guy i knew believes in:
he says it's not the chinese that come up with things but that it's aliens giving them information and then they keep it hidden from everybody. his reasoning. ever since the begining of tome there have been "miracles". the seemingly impossible becoming possible. one of his favourite examples was the incas. they constructed great things with huge "rocks" on the top of mountains and had no transport for those and none of them are to be found anywhere nearby. then there are pictures sculpted in walls of flying saucers. the reasonings and evidence keep going on. and on. and on. i think it's a good idea and it helps us not feel bad for being potentially a lot more stupid than a whole race of people, maybe even the dumb chinese could be more intelligent than we are.

Sheer volume of people going through high-class education, many of them come here to learn at universities then take that knowledge back to China. Far more people working on technological advancement is bound to yield faster results, our government doesn't seem to care what people get a degree in these days, China probably does.

Assuming you mean 'Japanese technology' I think the cultural differences between Japan and the west make them a much more determined people, much less willing to accept failure. And of course the affore-mentioned reverse Engineering. They are much better at improving than inventing.
