I don't get it. What do terrorists such as Al Quaida, Taliban, Hamas or Hezbollah hope to accomplish? If they wipe out the rest of the world, then what?

They want to take over and control everyone. By terrorizing people they feel this is one way to get there. In their minds they think they control alot more than they really do and it gives them power in their minds. I dont get it either.

They think it is a way to get people to do what they want. They want to control people through fear. Many of the attacks are the only thing they can do against the groups they feel are oppressing them.
Take Hamas - the Palestinian people have few rights, their land, even in Palestine itself, is up for grabs if an Israeli decides he likes it, and there is no way to fight Israel. So, they do what they can to drive them back (not realizing that it can, and probably will have the opposite effect), they bomb and attack the citizens and what few military installations they can reach. The IRA was the same way, if you check your history.

They can't possibly hope to ever really win, so their goal is to harass those who in their minds are putting them down, holding them back, or being agressive toward those who they consider their brothers, meaning their religion or race. The fact that they continually do the majority of their nastiness in the Middle East indicates that they are not as strong or powerful as the media gives them credit to be. Since they can blend in so well with local populations and they know the lay out of the land so much better, and since they don't use uniforms, it makes it really hard to identify them. They have drawn us in to where they are strong, and tha is why they seem to be having so much success.

The point is to create terror. When people are terrified then the intention is that they will put pressure on their Government which will give the Terrorists what they want. It is Blackmail on the World stage.

They don't want to wipe everyone else out - they want the rest of the world to think like they do, believe what they do.
BTW - Osama is NOT some poor, hard done by peasant who lost everything - he's one heir to a fortune & a millionaire (USD) is his own right - the fascists are right, intelectuals (like Osama) are too dangerous to allow them to live.
