Don't ask/tell's ridiculous. It brings the sexuality issue to conscious thought, in the context of a mystery..... "They don't ask? Who here's a homo that got in cause nobody thought to ask......?" Creates more of a problem than it solves. Fact is, our society's not ready to accept homosexuality as being "mainstream". People have gripes against other issues. (ie: racist, religious bigotry, etc) but we've come to see discrimination against those issues as wrong. We're not there yet with sexuality, so allowing it in the service will degrade "unit cohesion". In the private sector, that'll mean loss of profit. In the service, it could mean loss of life.
Personally, I could'nt care less what a person does in private. So long's the ground rule of "I'm straight, so not interested" is known and respected, why care? I don't, but many do. For some of the more hateful, being indifferent to gays is seen as a sign that one IS gay. It's idiotic, and ignorant but a fact of life that can't be denied. Lover's quarrels may be a problem, but that's more an issue of maturity than sexuality.

The idea behind the Don't Ask, Don't Tell, is that IF the military finds out they will still kick them out. It just sets a policy where they don't ask them if they are fru fru's and doesn't kick them out unless they find out that they are. There is no constitutional issue here.
It should be changed and they should go back to asking. Nobody wants to share a barracks, much less a foxhole with girly-men.

Lets include everybody!!!!!!
;-} Hey there sailor!!!
Thats what is wrong with un-bridaled, un-regulated, dis-respectful, loose and crazy secular society.
Nothings wrong with secularism on the surface, but leave a society that way for a few generations and what do you see? A litteral EXPLOSION of Homosexuality!!!
You cannot honestly say that there were this many queers in the days where gods word ruled supreem. No, they weren't just "in the closet" they just didn't exist in these numbers period. Not to be a hater, but it is dangerous to society! Honestly, Even if there was no god, what do you think would happen to a nation full of faries? If it was totally accepted and even encouraged as the fags would like it, you would see the basic unit of society irreversably damaged!!! Just imagine it in your mind, if gays were 1/3 of the society!!!
Thank God for His blessing of religeous knowledge upon us to teach us the righteious path and to keep society from spraling into the bowles of hell, and the sickning merriment and debochery that comes with it!!!
One Queer came into my job one day, and believe me, I don't bother those who don't bother me, but he was fully dressed as a woman. He streached and rubbed his stomache and exclaimed "Oh, my babies kickin!!!" I was so disgusted just from his fu-ckin look! He was such a filthy and disgusting excuse for a human being! What a disgrace and a dishonor gays are to mankind! Dosen't it make sense to them that god made man and woman as a perfect physical and emotional match for each other? The man has a surplus where the woman has a void, and they produce offspring? How can an A$$ FAG get pregnant in his CORNHOLE? WHY DO YOU TAKE IT IN THE CORNHOLE EVERY NIGHT?
YOU DON'T NEED A BOYFRIEND, YOU NEED A MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first opinion does not deal with issue your trying to make.Did Clinton use this issue as smokescreen to cover the fact the last thing in the world he want to do was work on better way to pay for health care. Feel ones sexual orientation should not matter if they exhibit acceptable behavior all times while on duty heterosexual or homosexual.

Doesn't matter. The military will always be filled with men who have sex with men. It's just part of the warrior culture. The solution is to keep wearing down at superstition and childish religious thinking, and all other problems rooted therein (like sexual matters) will evaporate. By the way, Marines all bottom when asked.

I think that if this is what it takes for some conservative people to allow others to stay in their chosen career or service path, then I guess that is the way it has to be. Until people open up their minds a bit, one may have to compromise to get what they want. Yes, they may want to be open and honest, but if it means you cannot serve your country, why not keep quiet? Once you get out, you can be "out".

I don't see why people should be warned not to tell something, unless that something is considered bad. It sounds at first that people are just being advised not to discuss personal matters, but diabetes and breast cancer are also personal -- how come people are advised to talk about THOSE things as much as possible? Therefore, I think "don't-ask-don't-tell" indicates homophobia.

I think its just an excuse to allow homosexual hazing.
As in "Well they shouldn't have let on that they were gay. Lets kick them out, we want to keep the bigoted people, they will fight more ruthlessly"

Homosexuality is frowned upon in our society. The majority of us view it as unnatural and wrong. You will get responses from others that defend it, however, most of us don't want it pushed upon us to accept it. That why there is always going to be a backlash in society, more especially in the military.
