The arguments about the various aspects of the moon landings being fake or not fake are superfluous. Just think.
Thousands of super-intelligent people were involved in the Apollo missions, from 1963 to 1972. To even begin to believe you could dupe all those people, or if not dupe them, pay them all off to keep quiet, or expect thousands of these people to keep quiet about a hoax, is absolutely insane.
I invite anyone who believes that the moon landings were a hoax, to provide me with the mechanism that would keep all the Apollo scientists, engineers, technicians, assistants, either ignorant of the hoax, or in on it.
Tell me how they set up hundreds of visual displays of the flight, the flight instrument recordings, the receivers, and ran these at the Cape, the Houston Control center and various stations around the globe for nearly a decade to monitor Apollo flights, such that it kept all those controllers duped into thinking the thing was real.

I think they're mostly people with poor reasoning skills who gain a sense of importance by thinking they "know" something that the Powers That Be are trying to keep from them.
Jason above is a pretty good example of the intractability and ignorance of the breed. First, he leads with the flag canard, widely debunked and actually pretty easy to see through if you look at the videos critically. Then, to compound it, he asserts that there is no gravity on the Moon!

People don't think before taking on conspiracy theories because it is far easier to just believe whatever the TV tells them. For example, people believe that Iraq is building an arsenal of nuclear and chemical weapons because Colon Powell said so. When all other sources of information indicate this is not the case, they continue to NOT THINK and go along with the conspiracy theory because if they started thinking now, it would destroy the belief system that their whole life is built around. You have clearly made up your mind on this issue, but you have never been to the moon, you have never seen, first hand, anyone on the moon, you don't know anyone who has been to the moon, and you can not explain how to get to the moon. You have made up your mind because someone that you consider an "authority" told you "we" went to the moon, and the only evidence you can give to support that conclusion consists of "my professor said" or "the Discovery Channel said" or "this book said," and that really isn't any more valid than "the Bible said," but I suspect you would throw that one out. When you consider that most people(including scientists and technicians) are just like you, in that they will believe whatever they are told, as long as it is told to them by a percieved "authority" then it isn't hard to see how all those people that you have so much respect for could be fooled. I suggest you do some research on the 1938 radio broadcast of "War of the Worlds," after which thousands of Americans actually fled New York and Philadelphia because they believed martians were invading - "BECAUSE THE RADIO SAID." I would also remind you that many programs like the Apollo programs are "compartmented," meaning that while thousands of people are involved in it, none of them understand the full scope of the project. You state "These are highly intelligent people, with their fingers on the pulse of the project." The people who make the helmet for the spacesuit probably don't know much about how the LEM works, and the people who build the LEM don't know how the rocket engine works, so on. Thousands of people work on the program, and while many may indeed be highly intelligent, most of them are "in the dark" when it comes to understanding the whole of the project and the only thing they have their finger on the pulse of is getting paid on Friday. I have previously stated that you seem to have made up your mind, so this answer is for the open minded people, who don't dogmaticly believe anything.

I believe the main reason that people gravitate towards conspiracy theories is that it's sometimes easier to believe deception over reality. The reality of a moon landing (to actually believe it) involves learning a tiny bit. Like how gravity behaves, the principle behind a rocket (Newtons third law) and trying to grasp the concept of the speed and/or risks involved throughout the flight.
If people aren't willing to try and learn a few basic concepts, it's much easier to listen to another idea set forth that is easier to understand.
The classic example for the moon landing being a hoax is the "lack of stars" in the photo's. For a gullible person, this seems pretty easy to prove. They can look at the photo and agree they don't see stars. They can then say, "gosh, when I go out at night, I see stars, maybe this is true?".
But again, it requires them to understand a little bit about how "brightness" can effect vision (on a person or a camera). While there are numerous analogies and experiments you can provide to a canidate, most of them won't listen or conduct the experiments because it requires effort. People are lazy.
But I suggest the next time they are outside at night and they walk under a mercury or halogen light they look up and tell me how many stars they see. And then remind them that the street light they are looking at is thousands of times more dim than the light bouncing off the planets and/or directly coming from the sun. Just then it's possible they "might" understand.
Hope this helps!

It makes no sense to say the Moon landing was a hoax...but many people believe in many things that make no sense. I don't have to look far to see people incapable of reason. My family has many of them. A man who married one of my paternal 2nd cousins said, "If men go to the Moon, they won't be able to come back. God didn't intend for men to be up there." It is strange that a deity has only pathetic ignoramuses speaking for him. I guess I was lucky, for he didn't ask me for regular offering, special offering and building fund contributions after his senseless sermon. If he was still alive, he'd love to hear that crap about the Moon landing hoax.

I often wonder the same thing. I think peoples readiness to beleive any conspiracy theory that comes along without proof is usually a result of extreme paranoia. I watched a documentary not so long ago about a guy who believed that the government was controlling our brains from outer space. It was hilarious.

Some people simply get off on conspiracy theories and hoax claims. Far too many people are incapable of critical thinking, believing almost anything that sounds like it makes sense, even though it doesn't.

I know you remember the Manhattan Project....they covered that up....as ar as the moon landing, there is so many facts about the footage, that could not be possible on the moon, for example.
why is the flag flapping in the video? theres no gravity or wind up there....
theres TONS of facts, just look at this website
