clean water is the simplest way to start. running or pouring tap water over most wounds is about as good as any solution. If their is material embedded or adhered to the wound then sterile (ideal) or clean cloth should be used to scrub the wound. None of this should come before stopping any large amount of bleeding. I am assuming we are talking minor wounds here.
