Go to a doctor immediately. It might be nothing but it's important to make sure. If nothing else, it'll make her feel better.
Good luck

There is a slight possibility of inhalation pnuemonia from the vomiting episode. He should be seen by the pediatrician, as these cases of pnuemonia can be very serious, particularly with a newborn. If his skin is drawing in above his collar bone and between his ribs when he breathes, he could be having difficulty breathing and should immediately be taken to an ER for sign of respiratory distress. Gagging is not a normal reflex to have for an extended period, and could also indicate an obstruction of some sort.

Tell her to get him to a doctor asap. He should see a doctor soon, in case he caught a bug or something; illness before 6 months is more critical than the same thing when their immune system is stronger.

Is she bottle feeding him? If so, my only suggestion is to make sure the hole in the nipple isn't too big. Most major bottle manufacturers have different sizes/stages of nipples. If he's less than a week old, he should be on the smallest one that the bottle manufacturer makes.

That's my only suggestion.

He may have a reflux problem. My son had something simialiar and I had to change his formula to a lactose free formula. But she did the right thing by calling the pediatrician. If she feels he isn't getting any better I would take him in.

god its fine!!

Our little boy is 5 weeks now and gags, gurgles and splutters!

She can elevate his head with a wedge under his mattress to aid breathing

Often newborns are chesty for weeks... as long as he's breathing and not blue shes fine!!
