Did the computer come with an INTERNAL wireless card? You can look on your invoice to see if it did (if so it will be listed as a Mini PCI card), or call Dell with the service tag number and see if it has one in it. There is one available for it, but without knowing if you purchased it with the laptop, it is hard to say. I dont know if they will sell it to you seperatley to install either, since I dont know if they put the antenna in the laptop even when the card is not installed, would be a question to ask them as well.
If it has the internal card, then yes you can go wireless. If not then the other option would be to purchase a PC Card that would go into the small slot on the side of your computer, and give you the wireless access also. The problem with the PC Card, is they stick out of the side of the laptops and can easily get broken and also cause your battery to drain quicker.
If the laptop has the internal card, you should be able to press the Fn key and the F2( I am using a DELL 800 right now) and turn the card on and off, there should be a light on the laptop around your power switch also, that should look like the wireless icon on the F2 key, and you should see the light go on and off when you press the Fn F2 combination. You should also see a notification in windows, down near the right side of the task bar telling you the interface is connected or disconnected IF the card is turned on and off.
Hope this helps.

WHAT'S HOT: Dell's Inspiron 4000, Inspiron 8000, and C-series Latitude notebooks now integrate wireless networking--a first for the company. The Pentium III-750-based Latitude C600 includes a TrueMobile wireless LAN mini-PCI card that connects to an antenna (which Dell has been building into these three notebook lines since last fall). Add an access point and you have 802.11b-compliant wireless local-area networking. Dell offers the $899 TrueMobile 1150 Wireless Access Point for the office and the $299 Wireless Network Hub for the home.

On the bottom of your laptop there is a panel secured with one or 2 screws. remove the screws and panel to see if your D600 already has a Wireless card installed(it will be square in shape next to the RAM). If it does then you are good to go. If not then you'll have to purchase the wireless card to install. You can order a mini-pci card directly from Dell or you can use a PC card to just plug in to the extenal slots located on the side of the laptop.

Most modern laptops have a wireless NIC (network interface card) built in. If so, it's just a matter of logging on to a wireless network and off you go.
If not, you'll have to buy a wireless NIC. You can check by opening your "network connections" and see if you have a wireless one. (or device manager to see if a wireless NIC is listed in your hardware).
