Hello,

This question is regarding house central AC. We don't have any air (either cold or hot) from the vents when the AC is on. All these vents connect to one pipe. I'm wondering if one brower controls one pipe or the whole unit? Anybody have any idea what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Not much to go on here, but listen and hear if you can hear air blowing at all when the unit is turned on. If you hear air but none is coming through the vents there may be one or more dampers closed. You can locate the damper by tracing the ductwork, you are looking for what looks like a nail going through the duct with a lever handle on one side. If the handle is perpendicular to the duct it is closed.

If you checked for air movement at all the registers and could not detect any movment at all it's possible that your blower's motor is burnt out or you have an electrical problem that prevents blower operation. It is also possible that you have a zone damper that isn't functioning correctly. Put your thermostat's blower setting from "auto" to the "on" position and see if you get some air movement.. If not, call your local cooling contractor. Good luck.

Possibly a bad fan motor. The outside compressor unit may be running but the inside unit should have some sort of turbine fan that should be circulating the cool air around. Check your filter to see if it is clogged and needs replacing. Also, check the intake and see if there is enough suction to hold a piece of paper to the vent.

Best of luck. This ain't the weather to have with your a/c on the fritz!

If the blower motor is working, you could be low on freon, causing the coils inside the house to ice over and block the airflow through the a/c unit. Have the system checked out by your HVAC serviceman.
