The thirteenth amendment reads: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment of crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
People are making millions and millions of dollars enslaving blacks, poor whites and others in the United States' prison system by putting them to work. What is your opinion on this?

Capitalism can only survive off some form of slavery. After formal slavery was abolished in 1865, the government had to think of a new way to put people to work for little or no money. That is when the chain gangs came along, and since then they haven't looked back. I believe, crime or no crime, that no man should be put to work against his own will. Many prisons in the U.S. are now privately owned, and prison labor is becoming a very lucrative business. They don't put them to work to teach them a lesson, or to give them something to do, they only put them to work so that they can have a PROFITABLE and SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS. Its all business, it always has been.

Actually in America it was not abolished. It was prevented. Existing slaves were not freed as a result of any government action. The prevention of any new slaves being "created" was enacted during Lincolns time in office. Slavery in other countries runs rampant still today. As a matter of fact there are many tribes in Africa where slavery is how you get a wife.
As for your comparing slaves to prisoners, not too bright. That is a disrespectful thing to any person who endured true slavery.

Did you miss the clause in the middle "except as punishment of crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted" ? I think that explains it. If you're convicted of a crime, they can put you to work and should.

If you cant do the time, dont do the crime. Should we just let the prisoners sit their in a cell and rot for 40 years?? Prisoners are not treated harshly at all. They are given an education, they get food, they get shelter. If all they did was sit on their ***, how would all this get paid for? Im not saying prison is awesome, i know it sucks. But we need to pay for all the extra stuff we are giving this criminals.

Slavery exists everywhere except it's often got a different name nowadays. It's called free market capitalism.

I'm okay with. It keeps them busy and helps pass the time. Some even learn a trade.

Slavery is big in China, Phillipeans, Indonesia, Tyland, & Cambodia.
Where does your shirt say it was made? Probably "China". So, yeap, you've hired a slave to make your shirt.
