An audio oscillator is an electronic device that produces AC waveforms in the Audio frequency range about 50Hz to 20kHz. Normally it will have a knob or buttons to tune the desired frequency. They are readily available to purchase or you can make your own.

The first answer thought you meant Oscilloscope which is an instrument for viewing electronic waveforms.

An audio oscillator, weird that you asked that. Hp (hewlett packard) developed audio oscillators way back in the day..disney bought a few to use in the making of fantasia. They transfer and obstruct sound waves,.. long story short.

It picks up audio and translates it into a wave that you view on a screen. It usually represents amplitude of noise vs. time, but there are many variations. Another version (though crude) of an audio oscillator is the crazy sound wave visuals you get on winamp or mediaplayer.
