the cross over has been a basketball move since at least the 30s and 40s, possibly earlier.
whether it was called that at the time, I'm not sure. But i've seen films from the 40s in which crossover moves were used in baskeball.

Im gonna go with Nate Tiny Archibald, the first real fancy dribbler in the NBA. He was the first guy who really showed it as a habit in every single game. Although some people are fans of Bob Cousy inventing the crossover, they're wrong. He never really had it as a habit, more like a showcase move.

Tim Hardaway is credited to have popularized the killer crossover move in the NBA while Allen Iverson has popularized the double crossover.
