2 years ago I had Mono and I did the stupid mistake of not resting, and working out while I was sick. I inflamed my spleen, but now it's permanantly weakened. If I get stressed out or even if I drink red wine (Shiraz & Cabernet mix), I can feel it starting to bubble again with slight pain.

The pain is not unbareable though, so I can live with it. Is there anything I can do to keep it from not getting swollen? I've heard root vegetables are supposed to help, but how much do I need to invest in them, or how often/how much of them do I need to eat to help it heal? (Surgery is not an option!)

Sounds like you damaged your spleen and there isn't too much you can do about it. Major functions of the spleen include removing abnormal blood cells and making components of the immune system. The spleen is involved in many body functions making it vulnerable to a range of disorders.

I don't know of any way to protect your spleen once the damage is already done. Your best bet would be to have a long talk with your doctor. Take note, that certain illnesses will put your spleen at even greater risk so he might want you to get some vaccinations to limit your chance of getting those illnesses. Make a list of all the questions you have and talk to your doctor asap.
