Maybe it just SEEMS that more people are getting divorced, with the advent of shows like "Divorce Court", etc. But is it true that more couples are getting divorces nowadays?

Why is this? I mean, specifically, what has changed in society that has caused this phenomenon to increase? Did people just get along better in marriages say 75 years ago?

Does it have to do with more cases of infidelity...or ? What dynamics in relationships and society have changed to spawn so much divorce?

I think divorce has become more socially acceptable. Back in the day if you got married, you stayed married. The man could be a raging acoholic, beat you, beat the kids, and you were expected to make it work, or make the most out of a bad situation. Today, people have realized that you dont need to be unhappy. That is if things can not be worked out that it is ok to move on with your life and try to find happiness. I do however believe people are too quick to divorce and for petty reasons. We have gone from one extreme to the other. Maybe in the next 75 years we can find a happy medium.

With the womens rights movement, women have become much more involved in the workforce and many other aspects of society previously reserved only for men. This has caused confusions towards marital roles once clearly defined and adhered to (the man works all day and pays the bills while the wife takes care of home and children). The ambiguous expectations in our day to day role as a spouse has created tensions between man and wife never previously experienced. This combined with an ever more liberal society has caused the sanctity of marriage and the ability to make it work to deteriorate exponentially. Or in other words, hubby is pissed cause he has to do dishes now, she makes as much money as he does, she doesn't get to spend as much time with the kids, she can never find a fuc king sitter, she always stressed out because work is so hard, and divorce is so socially acceptable now that, well... it's hard to make things work nowadays.

I think the societe overall has changed.. before.. the women was home raising the children and taking care of the household while the man was going to work and bringing in the money.. there wasn't as much to do as there is now.. I think people nowadays are very materialistic.. and it's a shame.. and values are not thought to children like they used to..

and people got married... for life.. now people get married with in mind.. "if it doesn't work.. I'll divorce".. bad way to start a relationship.. people always change.. but when people talk. .that's where things go well.. people don't talk anymore and get divorce for the stupidest things..

that's my view anyways..

Actually, divorce rates have had a steady decline over the past twenty years. Not a precipitous drop, mind you, but a substantial decrease.

The other thing you might not be taking into account was the women 75 years ago had no options when it came to supporting themselves and their children in the event of a divorce. So they were stuck.

I think its because women work now and have their own money. Back then when their husbands mistreated them they had nowhere to go. The divorce rate is high because men never want to grow up. They get married thinking they will have someone to clean their house and cook their meals and they can just continue to be kids. Back then women put up with it. That sh*t doesn't fly as much anymore. I think at this point men know what marriage is all about and if they dont want it they shouldn't ask the women to marry them.

hi, the reason for this problem is that people now have very few morals. the temptation is to great and it has a lot to do with money usually. when deciet and lies and cheating starts it is usually because the one doing it thinks the grass is greener on the other side of the fence but they later realize they have made a mistake when it is to late and they find out after the new wears off they are no better off. its fun to play but you are eventually gonna pay. if you know what i mean.
