Depends on what you are getting...house? Apartments? Condo? Some things you will want inlcude a basic tool kit, a sweing kit, cookware, dishes, spices (these are expensive to buy all at once, but they are a necessity), toaster, a toaster oven (because it's cheaper to cook with than a regular oven), microwave, computer, phone (get a corded phone that does not require electricity in case power goes out) a flashlight or two, battery powered radio, food of course, bed, furniture. I could give you a much better answer if I knew what you already have and where you are moving.

Everything you take for granted. When I first moved out, I forgot that the following things do not just happen:
trash cans
dish drainers
dishsoap
dish scrubby-brushes
soap
shampoo
toilet paper
broom
mop
bucket
wash cloths
towels
All the things that are absolutely essential for day-to-day life. Pay attention to everything in your parents' house that you use and say to yourself: do I have this for -my- place?
