Can someone please explain the route from Los Angeles to Reno, NV?

I've heard that in order to get from Los Angeles, CA to Reno, NV, you have to head west, but nothing's west of Los Angeles? What's the route you take.

Quickest route is taking the 5 North from Los Angeles all the way to Sacramento. Take 80 East in Sacramento and stay on it until Reno. Rather simple.

seetheglobe is right. just take i-5 north to sacramento and pick up i-80 east to reno. not a complicated route.
