My freshman year I went to college far away from my home and didn't know anyone. My roomate and I were very opposite from each other. I was difficult at first. There was a really snotty girl down the hall who's roomate quit after the first few days so she was all alone. She decided to tell my roomate things about me that were not true, and it was really hard for me. But my roomate finally found out the truth about that girl and after that her and I became best friends. We were inseperable until the end of the year. But she decided to not return the following year. I didn't have a roomate that I wanted after that so I was housed with another girl who's roomate ended up not coming back. I didn't really get along with her too well. She had her own friends there and I didn't fit in with her crowd. She was not rude to me or anything but I wouldn't have picked her again as a roomate.

It might be hard for you at first going away but even if you don't become good friends with your roomate, you will likely make good friends in your dorm or in your classes and you can hang out together. Just don't give up, and be prepared for the large amount of homework given. That really surprised me. College is ALOT of work!!!

Good Luck!!!!!

Was lucky and was best friends with all of them. But - I'm a guy - and they were guys - and guys are not petty without a good reason. Did not know a single girl who truly remained friends with a female roommate for an entire semester. Women are always petty for no apparent reason. They do claim to have a reason - but isn't it odd that they can never explain the reason.

It is hit or miss. Hopefully you will get some people who are like minded. I was friends with 3 of the 4 by the end of the year. Just don't be to stringent about anything. Nobody likes a stick in the mud.

My freshman year roommate and I were not very close but that may have been because she was a sophomore and I was a freshman. My Junior year and senior year roommates and I were all very close and we still spend time with one another as much as we can.
