I've been informed that an influencial person has black-listed me.

Have a friend call the person as a potential employer for you. Be sure that your friend has a tape recorder to tape record the response. If you are indeed being given bad references, file a complaint with the Department of Labor and be sure and hang on to the proof. Be sure the friend gets the person to say their name.

I agree with zocko.
That is the only way you will find out.

If you are seeking a job in the same field and in the same city --all of management level people belong to the same associations and they informally discuss applicants.

If this is the case, seek opportunities with the greatest competitor of the company you have just left. (Some of the management level people in the companies are only cordial to each other but they would not discuss applicants info)
