My 8-yr-old daughter asked me this morning, and I was baffled. We know it means stinky, but what does it stand for?

I went to Indiana University--that's how we refer to Purdue University (aka, Undue Perversity).

It is actually the word Peew. It is an old expression when you smell something offensive. It has just been shortened to P.U.

it doesn't stand for anything because your actually saying the word pew, but drawn out to sound like P.U.

It started as "Putrid and Unhealthy", but that took too long to say, so about 20 years later, it was shortened to "p & u". That proved cumbersome as well, so it became P-U.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' with it...
