My husband was arrested in South Carolina and sentenced to 12 years. We are from Maryland and I'm unable to travel to SC to visit him. Phone calls are very expensive. Any information that would lead me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Typically, prison sentences are to be served in the state where the offense took place. To get a prisoner transferred from one state to another takes a LOT of political clout.
So, start with your local congressman's office and see if they can be of any assistance. Be ready though, things involving these types of entities don't move fast at all.

You can't: bottom line. Unless hubby has outstanding warrant charges pending in Maryland. In such event, when he's done with South Carolina time, he gets cuffed and driven to Maryland, where he does his time there.
