He is now in the House of Lords, and over eighty years of precedent (the selection of Mr Baldwin over Lord Curzon, Churchill over Lord Halifax and Lord Home having to quit the Lords) deems that the prime minister cannot be in the House of Lords. Since Trimble was keen on integration between Britain and N Ireland he might not mind running for an English seat, but that's no longer possible.
