Any link that you click on any webpage has the potential to transmit a virus. To help prevent this, always keep your Windows patched and updated (updates are free and new ones come out the 2nd Tuesday of every month). And use an anti-virus program that has a real-time web scanner. Avast is just one such anti-virus that does use this technique.
